Once you move, you’ll realize that the Raleigh area has a rich history. Founded in 1792 and named after Sir Walter Raleigh, Raleigh as planning from the beginning as North Carolina’s “alternate seat of government.” The town site was established on land purchased specifically by the state to be used as the state’s capital. Conveniently, the city was laid out in a square grid pattern and expansions since them have not deviated much from those original plans. Raleigh-Durham has a warm humid temperate climate with hot summers and no dry season.

Just south of downtown, a 7,000-acre wooded tract of land known as “Research Triangle Park” is home to many major pharmaceutical and information technology companies.
